Signs of Summer

After a brief respite, the Pflog is back and just in time to get a nice tan.  (Not really, I don't tan, I speckle.) It's June 1st and the signs of summer are everywhere. An overly balmy 88 degrees was our high today but we enjoyed a nice breeze. Come, have some summer with me...

We need to ready ourselves. Barefeet required, polish optional. This is my new summer polish, a color that made my husband ask, with twisted mouth and cocked eyebrow, "Orange, hunh?" "Where Did Suzi's Mango", actually.

The yard art is in full bloom. My husband has a problem. He suffers from YAD, yard art disease. He alerted me today, with a grin, to expect some shipments this week. This is the real reason we need more land.

How about some live flowers? "Inchworm, inchworm, measuring out the marigold..."  That's a little song Jude and I sing.

This long green seed pod, was Jude's inchworm. He made it crawl and I sang the song.

The garden is doing well, we have tomatoes, large and small. Soon it will be time to make our own spaghetti sauce. Making stuff homemade is our way of sticking it to the man. I do not need to buy your overpriced organic pasta sauce. Give me $300 worth of soil, $60 worth of water, and about 2 months and I can make a jar of my own.

We have pears too, this is the first year this particular tree has produced but it is weighted down with baby pears. I'm all a twitter over the idea of pear cobbler. I'm twittering alone.

I've been hitting the markets for fresh produce too. Nothing says summer like fresh corn, except maybe...

Homemade ice cream. This is the newest thing that we don't want to buy ready made. We've been making our own bread for a while. Now, we're too good for store bought ice cream. Within a year we'll probably be making our own soap.

Now, this root beer float is made with store bought root beer. But, no lie, we are investigating how to make our own root beer. This is how Pfledderers live off the land - all natural, organic, homemade root beer floats. Just $29.99 a glass. We buy the milk, but I overlook that.

These are the things make us happy, so why not?  Know what else makes me happy?  Boys in silly hats. Guess who's going to the derby?

That's okay, Jude. This is Grammy's house - where being silly is the #1 rule. Wanna chase bubbles? We do want to chase bubbles - let's go.

Have a great week. And welcome back, I've missed you.
